Otsego Electric Cooperative and its internet subsidiary, OEConnect, LLC hereby announce that it will be extending its new state-of-the-art fiber optic network to all members who have no high speed service available at their homes.  The initial phases of construction will primarily be to homes that were identified in the recent grant awards from the New York Broadband Office of $3.9 million and $10 million. However, the Cooperative will also then build to members who were not included in the grants.  This is a momentous decision for all of the members of OEC and it is consistent with the core principles of operating as a cooperative.  The board appreciates all of the support and excitement of our members and the general public and it only asks that people sign up for service now or when it becomes available at your residence or business.  The more support this enterprise receives, the sooner we will be able to build the network out to more homes that are unserved and underserved.  It is hoped that this investment in our Cooperative, our members, and the community will help spur economic development and that it will encourage more people to move into or stay in the OEC service area.   Economic development within OEC’s service area has recently been identified as one of the Cooperative’s primary strategic goals.

OEConnect will offer internet service at either 100 Mbps for $49.95 or at 1 Gbps for $79.95 and phone service through Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).  OEC has over 3,800 members located over 750 miles of lines primarily in Otsego County and in parts of southern Herkimer, southeastern Madison, and northeastern Chenango Counties.  OEC is a green electric distribution cooperative with over 80 percent  of its electricity coming from clean and renewable hydroelectric power from the Niagara River Project.  Please contact the office at 3172 County Highway 11, Hartwick, NY or at 607-293-6622 if you would like to be placed on the waiting list for broadband or to ask any other questions that you may have.  OEC will hold another public information meeting on the broadband project at the Hartwick Community Center, Hartwick, NY on March 3, 2018 at 2 p.m.

(This deployment of broadband service is supported by a grant awarded to Otsego Electric Cooperative by New York State through the New NY Broadband Program.)
